Brief Notes from
-John Danks held
-Westbrook pitched OK but did allow 2 solo HR.
-Reds’ rookie Johnny Cueto pitched 7 innings and gave up just one solo HR and nothing else. The best part, he had 10 K’s. Eric Byrnes struck out three times and Chris B. Young four times.
-Alex Gordon hit his second dinger of the year, and even better didn’t strike out in his five AB’s.
-Zach Greinke pitched seven effective innings and Joakim Soria got his second save as the Royals swept the Tigers in
-Tom Gordon somehow made it through an inning without giving up a run as he walked two and allowed one hit.
-Mike Napoli hit his second HR of the season and Chone Figgins stole his second base and was also thrown out once.
-Kevin Slowey showed he’s not ready to be on a fantasy roster yet lasting just 3 1/3 innings.
-Ervin Santana gave some hope as he won on the road going 6 innings and finishing his start with a 1.00 WHIP.
-Brad Thompson (6 2/3, 6 K’s) and the Cards’ bullpen shutout the
-Hold off on Ubaldo Jimenez for now (5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 BB, 3 ER), and that was at
-Remember Anthony Reyes? He pitched the 8th inning and struck out the side. Something to keep an eye on.
-Alfonso Soriano was back in the leadoff spot and stole a base. The Cubs stole four bases off Jason Kendall, the others being Pie, Fukudome, and Theriot.
-Dave Bush was back to his old ways (5.1 IP, 6 ER, 6 H, 5 BB)
-In a turn of events Carlos Marmol was out pitched by Kerry Wood who struck out two and got the save.
-Lance Berkman stole his second base of the season. His career high is 9.
-Randy Wolf pitched well but didn’t get a decision (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K’s).
-Trevor Hoffman recovered from his blowup and pitched a perfect 9th inning for his second save.
-The Braves had 10 hits off Zach Duke, but only one off four Pirate relievers in a 3-2 loss.
-Phil Hughes and Dustin McGowan finished with nearly identical numbers in their game (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 K’s). Hughes only walked one batter though and McGowan three.
-Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera cleaned up the 8th and 9th innings as Joba got the vulture win and Rivera his second save.
-Jorge Posada missed his second straight game with shoulder stiffness.
